The effect of trichloroacetamide, chloroform and linseed oil given into the rumen of sheep on some of the end-products of rumen digestion.

چکیده
I. Twelve sheep were offered a diet of hay and molassed sugar-beet pulp for 18 weeks, and from the 3rd to the 16th week the sheep were divided into four groups of three; one of each of the groups received daily 170 mg trichloroacetamide, 140 mg chloroform, 30 g linseed oil or no additive. 2. The additives had no significant effect on the apparent digestibility of the dry matter, organic matter, nitrogen or energy of the diet. 3. When either trichloroacetamide or chloroform was added to the diet, methane production was almost totally suppressed and some hydrogen w a s produced but, although these changes persisted with chloroform, they were much reduced after 28 d of trichloroacetamide administration. When linseed oil was added to the diet the methane production was reduced by almost

Peppermint and Pennyroyal Essential Oil Effect on Performance, Rumen Microbial Population and Some Blood Parameters of Sheep
BACKGROUND: The use of antibiotics as feed additive in animal feeds due to the appearance of residues in milk and meat and their effects on human health has restricted. Two of essential oils with high potential for use in ruminant diet are Mentha piperita (peppermint) and Mentha pulegium (pennyroyal) essential oil. OBJECTIVE: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of essential oils...
متن کاملDynamic Changes of Main Rumen Microflora and Ruminal Fermentation in Sheep Supplemented with Molasses-Urea
The digestion and utilization of roughage by sheep depends on rumen digestion. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microbe quantity and fermentative efficiency of rumen supplement with molasses-urea. This experiment was conducted in 2014, eight sheep were selected and divided into two groups (a control group and a treatment group), and only the treatment group animals were supplied with m...
متن کاملThe effect of varying the amount of linseed oil supplementation on rumen metabolism in sheep.
The effects of three levels of linseed oil (LSO) supplementation of a basal diet on rumen digestion and flow of nutrients to the proximal duodenum of three mature sheep provided with permanent rumen and duodenal re-entrant cannulas were studied. 2. A basal diet of 200 g hay and 400 g concentrates daily, providing approximately 7.0 MJ digestible energy and 13 g N/d, was given alone or with suppl...
متن کاملDigestion and synthesis in the rumen of sheep given diets supplemented with free and protected oils.
1. Six wether sheep were each provided with a permanent cannula in the rumen and re-entrant cannulas in the proximal duodenum. 2. In a preliminary study, the sheep consumed 200 g hay and 400 g concentrates supplemented with up to 40 g linseed oil, coconut oil or cod-liver oil daily. Feed was refused at higher levels of supplementation. 3. Five of the sheep were used in a 5 x 5 Latin-square expe...
متن کاملSpecial Rumen Microbiology
Bacteria make up about half of the living organisms inside of the rumen. However, they do more than half of the work in the rumen. The bacteria work together. Some breakdown certain carbohydrates and proteins which are then used by others. Some require certain growth factors, such as B-vitamins, which are made by others. Some bacteria help to clean up the rumen of others’ end products, such as ...
